Since 2001, Tara has developed research projects concerning issues such as water and sanitation options, urban building efficiency, community development, and environmental justice. Her consulting experience includes clients such as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the World Water Forum, as well as numerous grassroots international women's groups, local communities, individuals, and corporations. She has also worked closely with local government officials in New York City, such as the Manhattam Borough President and New York State Assembly Speaker's Office. This work includes serving as project leader of the Go Green Cooking Oil Program for the Manhattan Borough President's Office, as well as a being member of their Sustainable Business Committee.
In addition to her local research partnerships, Tara has been the international coordinator and lead contributing author on many international, environmental policy papers to the United Nations, including ones for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the DPI/NGO Climate Conference, as well as a contributing author to research initiative for the UN Commission on Sustainable Development and the World Water Forum. Beginning in 2005, she was appointed to the UNDP Gender Expert Roster, as well as the Environment Expert Roster.
Tara has also received numerous fellowship awards for her research, including ones from the Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy at Columbia University, the Center for Long-Term Ecological Research, the Surface Ocean Lower Atmosphere Study (SOLAS), and the NY Soil and Water Conservation District.
Tara is an active member of many international research collaboratives including the Gender and Water Alliance, Gender and Diversity Network, UN Women’s Major Group, Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, Gender and Disaster Network, Gender and Climate Change Network, Women's Sustainable Development Network, and Young Women in International Development.
