Climate Counseling (Performance)
Performance, 2011, Times Square
In a costume reminiscent of a 1940’s cigarette girl, DePorte roller skates around the Times Square pedestrian area offering climate counseling sessions. Passers-by will confess their climate guilts, doubts, and questions, and receive a “prescription” telling them how they can help solve climate change issues. Calling on the kitsch of the experience, the piece uses curiosity and humour to help people address the often-overwhelming feelings associated with climate change, leaving them with a course for positive action.
