The Albedo Effect (Performance)

Performance and Film, 2011, NYC

The Albedo Effect is a performance piece and film that uses dance and physical expression to "play" with the idea of the urban heat island effect. Throughout the performance, DePorte and Hall use the task of "painting a roof white" as a means to move, create images, and explore the transformation of the heat trapping blackness of the traditional NYC rooftop into a cool, reflective surface of a white roof.

This piece was developed and performed for the 2011 Ten Days of Climate Action of the Human Impacts Institute ( as an official event of Climate Week NYC
